Erwin 'Erwin' Lin

1. General information

Your name:
Erwin Lin
You live in (city & country):
Los Gatos, California
Your birthdate (or age):
3 October, 1979
Your occupation/job/studies:
Independent dealer/distributor
Your hobbies:
Environmental activism, community service, piano player, cycling, and a litttle bit of dancing, acting, bridge playing, and art.
Anything you want to add here (about yourself):
I also have interests in video gaming, DOOM, and FAQ writing. I intentionally left those off the hobbies list curious as to how many peoples' eyes will widen upon reading it. My profile would probably be voted least likely to be a Doom freak. Never bought or played UDoom other than shareware version 1.2

2. DOOM-related information

Your DOOM config (key bindings, controllers):
I was a complete keyboarder until September 2001; now I use keyboard + mouse with the following bindings:
E/D: forward, backwards
S/F: strafe left, strafe right
Mouse: turn left, right
MB1: fire
A: speed on (real doomers don't need autorun)
Spacebar: use
arrow keys: default (only used when I want to move very precisely)
Ctrl or MB2: strafe on (don't really use, depends on my mood)

Size of DOOM directory on your HD:
A measly 60 MB or so. Back on my old P133, it got to about 200 MB which is a big chunk of a 2.1 gig hard drive.
First contact to COMPET-N (when, how etc.):
Found a link on the Team Insanity page. Can't quite remember how I found my way there to begin with. That was sometime in November 1999.
First COMPET-N demo:
Favourite COMPET-N demo(s) from yourself (the one(s) that you're most proud of):
mm17-604, ht021613 even if it does look like a Pacifist run half the time
Favourite COMPET-N demo(s) from others:
Ones with tough jumps. lv19-040 comes to mind. There really are far too many good demos to watch them all.
Favourite DOOM or DOOM2 map:
Doom2 Map 19
Favourite TC/megawad:
Hell Revealed, Alien Vendetta I like some maps from Eternal Doom, Memento Mori, and Biowar as well. Requiem doesn't qualify as a favorite because it's so stingy with rockets.
Do you like Quake?
Don't have it. Pain in the rear to play keyboard only.
What do you think of DOOM now?
Between Doom's visplane overflows and savegame buffer overflows, ZDoom crashing unpredictably, and MBF not liking my sound card, I don't play a whole lot of Doom these days.
Anything you want to add here:
The way I became interested in Doom add-on maps is a bit unusual. E-mail me if curious as I won't use COMPET-N webspace on it. When recording, I find that if I'm frustrated, my performance plummets. In these situations, I'd recommend doing something that's not related to Doom. Recording demos ought to be fun anyways; why bother when all it's giving is high blood pressure?

Erwin has only done HR and Requiem Tysons so far (certainly not easy runs) with the exclusion of his latest MM attempts. So he only tunes in once in a while with a demo or two - certainly not your usual competition fanatic :) Enjoyable runs though, and an interesting profile to read :)
